Why you must visit the SilverKris Lounge in Bangkok (spoiler alert: it’s the food)

SilverKris Lounge Bangkok

An outstanding Singapore Airlines lounge

Overview of Singapore Airlines’ SilverKris Lounge in Bangkok

possibly Singapore Airlines’ best, with restaurant quality food and drink options and a premium yet welcoming feel

Highlights: the food is top notch (try the kueh and nasi lemak) with just enough variety without comprising on quality, and the extensive cocktail options and pandan flavoured coconuts!

Lowlights: quite far away from the gates but honestly it’s probably a good idea to walk off the 5 course meal you may have devoured in the lounge before getting on a flight

Overall: yes, it’s worth arriving at the airport a few hours early just to visit this lounge – it’s that good

The SilverKris Lounge in Bangkok is open from 6.30am-11pm for all eligible business class flyers, KrisFlyer Gold+ and Star Alliance Gold+ members. Obviously you need to be flying on a Star Alliance flight as well. We were flying from Bangkok to Singapore on Singapore Airlines in Economy, and gained entrance using my Star Alliance Gold membership.

The SilverKris Lounge is tucked away on Level 3, Concourse D (near gate D7) – it’s a fair hike from the departures area so make sure you factor in an extra 15 mins to find and walk to the Lounge if you’re tight on time!

There is a discrete entrance with the signature Singapore flower artwork and upon entry, you’ll find lots of leather chairs and booths surrounding the centrepiece – a big bar serving up all manner of sins made-to-order. It’s not huge (seats around 100), but never felt crowded even though we were there for nearly three hours.

Ok so some may complain I’ve skipped over a review of the toilets but tbh I’m not that fussed with the toilets – as long as they have them (yes they did) and they are clean (yes they were), that’s good enough for me. So let’s get to the important stuff – the food. Ohhh boy. I’d read the food options at this lounge in Bangkok were good and I can confirm that it SLAPPED.

There’s not a huge selection (see entirety of the footprint below) – but everything was top quality and well curated with a few key Singaporean and Thai favourites.

Getting giddy at discovering the impending buffet options

There was nasi lemak with all the accouterments, including sambal, ikan bilis, fried peanuts, cucumber, hard boiled egg and fried chicken…

Could just eat all these four things by themselves tbh

An eggy steamer – nasi lemak hard boiled egg and random frittata

…pad thai with self serve toppings (chilli powder, peanuts, sugar, beansprouts, chive, lime…

One can never have enough pad thai

    Top me up!

…Thai style steamed curry fish in banana leaves…

I wouldn’t risk the fish before a flight in just any old lounge – this was an exception

…dim sum style tier with fried carrot cake, quiche tarts, fish fingers (this was then replaced with actual dim sum items such as char siu pau, har gau, custard buns and steamed wonton at some point)…

This is where you’ll find the fried chicken for your nasi lemak

…and then some Western options like roast pork with mash…

Usually I love mash but the opportunity cost was too high

…and a sandwich station if you’re looking for something boring (just jokes, no judgment here. Ok maybe just a bit).

Warm designer lighting required to make sandwiches look good
Ham smush between whitebread with more ham on top

Don’t forget to save room for dessert, where you can choose from Haagen Dazs ice cream (there were chocolate or vanilla flavours for our visit) and an incredible kueh spread – honestly this was the best ondeh ondeh kueh I have ever had – and the kueh lapis was pretty good as well. Hats off to the chef team!

    One of everything pls

The ondeh ondeh cake disappeared quickly – snag one first before you start on savouries..

There’s also a few fridges with drinks and fruit – the highlight here is the fresh, young, pandan coconut. Honestly it was so good I went back for seconds. I would have liked thirds but traded this off for a Thai tea – which was also excellent.

Pandan flavoured coconuts – yes please!!

Yoghurt, soy milk, fruit, water for all the responsible people out there (not me)

For those who have read any of my other posts covering any sort of buffet spread (e.g. the buffet breakfast at the Fairmont Singapore, or the Intercontinental in Da Nang) knows that I get a weird satisfaction from combining strange things on my plate that would never ordinarily get served anywhere else – such as wontons with bacon, or fruit with a piece of fried chicken. This did not happen here, as I just couldn’t go past the classics – nasi lemak and pad thai, and a plate of dim sum with a cup of tea.

    The perfect plate??

A plate of things I absolutely did not need to eat but absolutely needed to eat

All in all, the SilverKris Lounge in Bangkok was definitely one of my favourite lounge experiences in the world and I would probably pay a bit more to fly a Star Alliance airline out of Bangkok just to come here again!
